Begin with a tour of this enchanting city, visiting the iconic Hercules Cave and Cape Spartel. Lunch is on the house. As the day unfolds, embark on a scenic journey inland to Chefchaouen, passing through Tetouan and the picturesque Rif mountains. Keep an eye out for opportunities to take in panoramic views along the way. Your first night will be spent at a hotel in Chefchaouen.
After breakfast, you have the freedom to explore the charming streets of Chefchaouen, known for their striking blue hues. Then, we're off to Volubilis to witness the ancient Roman ruins, meticulously preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site showcases stunning mosaics, ancient pillars, and archways, offering a glimpse into Morocco's Roman history. Travel 30 kilometers to Meknes, one of the imperial cities and the Ismaili capital. Your journey through the Medina is guided by a local expert, offering access to essential sites like the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, and the Tanneries, all reflecting the city's rich history and craftsmanship. The day concludes with a visit to the Quaraouin mosque and university, considered the world's oldest university. Today's adventure begins after breakfast as you depart Fes, embarking on a journey southward. First, visit Ifrane, often called "Morocco's Switzerland" due to its cold climate, alpine-style architecture, and snowfall. Then, explore the Cedar Forest, home to Barbary macaques, offering the opportunity to observe and even feed these fascinating creatures. Your journey continues to Midelt, where you'll have time for lunch. Next, drive through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass, descending into the Ziz valley, where you'll encounter stunning panoramic vistas. In the afternoon, arrive in the Merzouga Sahara desert.
Here, you'll switch to camels for a ride through the sandy dunes, pausing to witness the breathtaking sunset from atop a high dune. Reach your desert camp, a blend of traditional nomad tents and hotel elegance. Here, beneath the starry sky, you can listen to Berber drum music and dance around a bonfire. After a satisfying breakfast, spend the day exploring the Merzouga region, where you'll find a wealth of natural wonders, including sand dunes, natural lakes, mines, fossil sites, and enchanting oases. The area offers various outdoor activities for you to enjoy fully. Start by off-roading to an old eyeliner mine near Merzouga. Then, visit a nomadic family in their traditional handwoven tent, learning about their way of life and enjoying a cup of Berber tea. Today, your journey continues as you head from the Dades Valley to Marrakech. En route, you'll explore the Rose Valley, where a vibrant Rose Festival is held annually in May. Residents sell various rose-based products, such as fragrances, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. Travel through the palm groves of Skoura and visit Amredhyle's Kasbah. As you arrive in Ouarzazate, you'll have the opportunity to explore the film studios, known for their role in the production of many great movies.
Ouarzazate is also home to the Taourirt Kasbah, which you can visit.
